(PJCE Records) Lie Very Still features some of Portland's most adventurous improvisers to create the haunting, yet hopeful, Nova Pangaea suite that masterfully blends jazz, world music, and avant-garde sounds to convey the interconnectedness of our global community and the urgent need for collective action. Join Lie Very Sill for a performance of Nova Pangaea alongside other original compositions from this daring Portland ensemble's Burlingame Space debut!
Composer, performer, flutist, and saxophonist John C. Savage has been compared to Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Herbie Mann, Ian Anderson, and Colin Stetson. Savage has performed and recorded with, among many others, Groove Revelation (Grindin’), Andrew Hill (A Beautiful Day, and A Beautiful Day Revisited), Billy Fox and Mark Dresser (The Uncle Wiggly Suite), Roscoe Mitchell (Distant Radio Transmission), and releases on PJCE Records (Black Heron and the Spoonbill, Ekta, Demolition Duo, Senses Sharpened, and Lie Very Still’s Nova Pangaea). In November of 2025, Savage completed East and West Coast tours with Kennebec for the release of The Water Wheel. Notably, he is the featured flutist on composer Mark Orton’s original score for the 2023 Oscar contender The Holdovers. Savage holds a Ph.D. from New York University and currently teaches music at Mount Hood Community College.
