PDX Jazz at The Hoxton, Machado Mijiga Quartet

Fridays this fall, unwind with live jazz and crafted cocktails at Lovely Rita inside The Hoxton, Portland. From October 3 through November 14, PDX Jazz brings an intimate lineup of performances to the heart of downtown every Friday from 5–7 PM. Sip, savor, and start your weekend with the perfect mix of music and atmosphere.

Artist: Machado Mijiga

Portland native Mijiga is a classically trained, jazz-seasoned multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and audio engineer. With an intercultural heritage and early access to many instruments, he developed a versatile, ever-evolving artistry. He studied saxophone at the University of Puget Sound and Washington State University, with additional percussion and ensemble experience at Whitman College. Since then, he has performed with Ghost Note, The Black Pumas, Esperanza Spalding, Terence Blanchard, Benny Golson, and more, with festival appearances at Pickathon, PDX Jazz Festival, San Jose Jazz Festival, Montavilla Jazz Festival, and beyond.

As a touring member of GRAMMY winners Portugal. The Man, Mijiga, has played saxophone, drums, keyboards, and electronics on stages from Red Rocks and Radio City Music Hall to Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo, with virtual performances for KEXP and Taco Bell. He was the 2020 Portland Jazz “Composers Cook-Off” winner, a 2021 Third Coast Percussion “Creative Currents” partner, and has released 29 records, 21 EPs, and 17 singles—nearly all self-produced. He also serves on the boards of the Creative Music Guild and Jazz Society of Oregon, continuing to shape Portland’s music community.
