Son de Cuba is a sextet created in August 2015 by musicians from Mexico and Cuba. They play different kinds of genres such as Salsa, Timba, Son, Merengue, Boleros, Cumbia, Bachata, Latin Jazz, etc. The band is based in Portland, OR and consists of: Vocals, piano and bass piano player, Nelson Morales; singer and minor percussion, Adalberto Dominguez; Sax, flute and vocals, Ramon Brizuela Martinez; Timbal player and master percusionist, Isidro Valor Perez; Trumpet player, minor percussion and vocals, Juan Carlos Tito; The band manager, percusionist and vocals will be Tony Gonzalez.
Since five of the band members are Cubans, they have roots in Latin, African, and Jazz rhythms. They blend this vast knowledge of different beats together in classic and modern latin songs, exuding energy, happiness, and encouraging you to dance. With only six performers, they have a full sound and will draw a crowd with our energy and love for our music. Dancing is encouraged, and they may even join you!
A staple in the live Latin music scene since 1987, Conjunto Alegre plays tropical music from all over the Caribbean - Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Colombia, Venezuela, Panama, and the US. Aquiles Montas has been the lead promoter of Caribbean music in Oregon since 1984. Conjunto Alegre’s high energy and great connection with audience has made them high priority at clubs, private parties, and summer concerts in the parks for many years such as: Mt Hood Jazz Festival, Portland Mayor's Ball, Ilani Casino, Portland Rose Festival, Cinco De Mayo, Eugene Celebration, Salem Art Festival, Oregon County Fair and all city summer concerts throughout Oregon.
