BLUES ON THE RAILS is the musical celebration of Norman Sylvester and his family's journey from the farmlands of Louisiana to their new life in Portland, Oregon in 1957. The great migration of Southern families that came to the industrialized North for work, enriched our community with Southern influence of diversity, food, and music. Norman's first step into Portland from the Union Pacific Vista Dome Train was onto the platform of the Historic Union Station.
