In partnership with DigiPen Technical Institute, PACE is proud to announce the launch of a fall initiative for youth interested in exploring the arts in tech!

Techtober is a live-in-person symposium series that will take place on October 1st, 8th, and 15th on the DigiPen Campus. Each moderated conversation will feature professionals who will speak about their experiences in the field, followed by an interactive demonstration. Explored topics will include: Work in Voice Over, Arts Direction, Sound Design, and Psychology of Avatar Creation.

Moderator Miguel Calderon will interview Mark Henne, Program Director for DigiPen’s MFA in Digital Arts.  A Q&A session will open the conversation to the audience for the last 30 minutes.

This symposium will be moderated by Miguel Calderon. Miguel Calderon (he/him) is a Senior Recruiter currently building the Games Platform team at Netflix. With over 15 years of experience, Miguel has worked with the very cool folks at 343 Industries and The Coalition, having recruited for Animation, Gameplay, Multiplayer, Publishing, and Rendering Engineers.

Mark Henne is the Program Director for DigiPen's MFA in Digital Arts and is on the faculty of the Animation Department where he collaborates in teaching on capstone animated film projects.  Prior to joining DigiPen at the end of 2012, he worked professionally in animation and visual effects for over 20 years, nearly all of them with Pixar Animation Studios beginning with the original Toy Story and ending with Brave.  His primary expertise is in hair and clothing simulation, with department supervisor roles overseeing that work on The Incredibles and for crowds and simulation on WALL-E.  Mr. Henne earned his Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of California, Santa Cruz, with thesis research on the creation of simulated skin for human figure animation.

Intended for youth age 14+, Techtober promises to be the event to spark interest in youth wanting to level up their understanding of employment opportunities.
