Son de Cuba is a quintet created by musicians from Chile, USA, and Cuba. We play different kinds of genres such as Salsa, Timba, Son, Merengue, Cumbia, Bachata, Latin Jazz, etc. The band consists of: lead singer and minor percussion, Freddy Vilches; vocals, piano and bass piano player, Nelson Morales; American drummer, Jackson Coffey; Flute, Sax and Vocals, Ramon Brizuela, and Cuban percussionist, vocals and band leader, Tony Gonzalez. We are based in Portland, Oregon. Since the majority of the band members are Cubans, we have strong Cuban roots, we have roots in latin, African, and jazz rhythms. We blend this vast knowledge of different beats together in classic and modern latin songs, exuding energy, happiness, and encouraging you to dance. With only four performers, we have a full sound and will draw a crowd with our energy and love for our music. Dancing is encouraged, we may even join you!
Our Mission:
The Unity Benefit Music Series is a vital collaboration created from the necessity to reconnect with our community, unite our efforts for positive change and help heal our city and country through the message of music!
Our focus is to advocate and address the need to support our local venues, staff, the musicians, bartenders, and restaurant workers from the devastating effects of our industry shut down.
This series features top Soul, Latin and jazz bands with special guests, plus resident DJ’s & MC's.
The evening will spotlight positive and informative commentary from local community activists, nonprofits and social justice advocates sharing ideas and strategies to unite our city & country.

For those unfamiliar with Botanist, we are your thoughtful, intentional home away from home neighborhood destination bar/restaurant located in the heart of the Pearl District in Portland, Oregon. In the local community, we are known for our personalized style of hospitality, creative cocktails, and delectable tapas and entrées. Over the time that we have been open, we have been able to establish strong relationships with not only our guests (aka Our Family) but also the service industry professionals.
