Norman Sylvester band featuring his lovely daughter Lenanne Miller bring the “Blues on the Rails” show back by popular demand.
Norman Sylvester performs another intimate & soulful show to pay tribute to his blessed journey here from the South.
At age 12 he and his family boarded the Union Pacific Vista Dome train from the farmlands of Bonita Louisiana. From the segregated South to a new life here in the N.W., It was like coming to another country. The great migration changed our community in Portland and brought us diversity, traditions and music. Norman "Boogie Cat" Sylvester made the 3 day train ride eating out of their lunch basket his Grandmother had packed. When the Train Porters changed in Denver, the African American Porters from Portland were ready to receive all of the Southern families by taking them to the Pullman car after the dinner crowd was gone and treating them to prime rib & bake potato dinners. Their first step into Portland was onto the Historic Union Station platform.
