Tales Untold - CD Release Show with Brian Copeland

Friday, November 4th

Doors Open: 5:00pm
Event Begins: 8:00pm

When Tales Untold reunite on stage at Jimmy Mak’s, it won’t be to re-live the days of RIAA Gold certification and headlining world tours. You would think that crafting “upbeat euro-pop-rock” driven by tuba & accordion would make you stand out when many Northwest bands were parroting the doom & gloom of the lucrative grunge wave. You would be right but Tales Untold, despite being courted by several major labels (including Prince’s Paisley Park records), came up short of 90s alt-rock promised land achieved by contemporaries like Jellyfish and Everclear.

They did earn the admiration of a small army of fans and music writers that made them one of Portland’s “It” bands in the mid- and late-90’s, drawing comparisons to bands from Queen to Jellyfish to XTC and even having the term “Beetle-esque” used to describe their work.

Why a Tales Untold reunion now, more than a decade and a half since the band went their separate ways? In large part it’s because both Don and Nathan recently decided to move back to the Rose City.

Opening the show is a Jimmy Mak’s returning champion, Brian Copeland Band, whose music is a unique brand of catchy/lyrical guitar-pop. Nearly fifteen years of on-stage success and partnerships with dozens of accomplished musicians through Brian’s previous bands have resulted in a body of work that showcases superb musicianship as well as Copeland’s production and songwriting chops. As a vetted pop musician at the center of a galaxy of classically trained musicians, Brian Copeland has built a powerhouse pop institution that remains fresh and engaging, album-to-album and show-to-show.
