Fridays this spring, unwind with live jazz and crafted cocktails at Lovely Rita inside The Hoxton, Portland. From April 17 through June 5, PDX Jazz brings an intimate lineup of performances to the heart of downtown every Friday from 5–7 PM. Sip, savor, and start your weekend with the perfect mix of music and atmosphere.
Artist: Get Smashing Love Power
Noah Bernstein is a saxophonist/composer active in the boundless expanses of the Portland, OR music scene and can be seen performing regularly with his band GRAMMIES, R&B dudes Shy Girls, and Get Smashing Love Power. He holds a degree in jazz saxophone from the Oberlin Conservatory. In 2012, he released the critically acclaimed Noah Bernstein Six. Bernstein grew up in rural Vermont. He carries with him its brooding forests and rolling hills wherever he goes.
Reed Wallsmith is a composer/saxophonist living and working in Portland. He performs and composes with Battle Hymns & Gardens and Luke Wyland, and has collaborated with Wayne Horvitz, Laura Gibson, Like A Villain, Ethan Rose, Eyvind Kang, John Gross, Tere Mathern Dance, Northwest Dance Project, AU, and Cataldo, among others.
Shao Way Wu is a freelance jazz bassist and Portland resident who grew up in Hong Kong. He moved to the Bay Area in 1971 at the age of fifteen. For two decades, Wu was a pillar of the Humboldt County, CA, jazz community. His artistic spirit has been thriving in Portland, where he’s released a handful of albums and collaborated with a swath of northwest creatives. Current projects include The CMG Extradition Series, John Savage Quartet, Bryan Smith Quartet, Alan Cook Collective, JB Butler Trio, John Niekrasz Trio, Ike Levin Trio, and Chris Lee Duo.
Tim DuRoche (drums) has worked with Battle Hymns & Gardens, the Pebble Trio, and the Kin Trio, as well as with an array of US and European avant-garde jazz innovators.
