Fridays this spring, unwind with live jazz and crafted cocktails at Lovely Rita inside The Hoxton, Portland. From April 17 through June 5, PDX Jazz brings an intimate lineup of performances to the heart of downtown every Friday from 5–7 PM. Sip, savor, and start your weekend with the perfect mix of music and atmosphere.
Artist: Tim Jensen Quartet
Tim Jensen is a multi-instrumentalist (sax, flute, and clarinet), composer, and band leader. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Tim graduated from Wayne State University in 1984 with a bachelor's degree in music. After graduation, Tim traveled the U.S. with the national touring companies of Cats, Aspects of Love, Phantom of the Opera, and Les Misérables. He has also backed up many artists, including Julie Andrews, Johnny Mathis, Rosemary Clooney, Ray Charles, Lou Rawls, Natalie Cole, The Manhattan Transfer, The Ojays, Mary Wilson, Dianna Reeves, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Bobby Vinton, Frankie Valli, and Wayne Newton.
After freelancing in New York City from 1992 to 1995, Tim moved to Portland, Oregon, with his wife, Nancy Ives (currently the principal cellist of the Oregon Symphony).
In 2001, Tim released his self-titled debut CD to excellent reviews. He followed that with A Mind For the Scenery on Origin Records, also to rave reviews.
Since moving to Portland, Tim has appeared on over twenty-five recordings. Including: Gino Vannelli's Canto, Pink Martini's Hang on Little Tomato, and Gary Hobb's Of My Times. Tim also performs with the Oregon Symphony, Portland Opera, The Bobby Torres Ensemble, and the big bands of Rob Scheps, and Gordon Lee. Tim also leads his own ensembles of varying size. He is currently recording music for his next CD.
