The Birk Presents an afternoon of blues, R&B, and soul with bonafide Portland music legend Curtis Salgado on vocals and renowned musician Alan Hager on guitar.
Award-winning vocalist/songwriter/harmonica icon Curtis Salgado sings and plays with soulful authority, never giving less than 100 percent. He plays each and every show like it’s the most important gig of his career. He recalls the time when his friend, the great chitlin’ circuit singer Buddy Ace, put on the show of his life, singing his heart out, making three costume changes, all while playing at a casual house party. Salgado was floored. “I was just there playing with my band, hanging out in cut-offs and a t-shirt, and there’s Buddy treating the gig the same as if he was performing at the Apollo,” he says. From that moment on, Curtis vowed that every time he got on stage he would deliver his very best shot.
Alan Hager was born and raised in Portland, Oregon, Alan started making music and playing guitar at age 10. By the age of 15, he had become fascinated with Blues & Jazz, and started voraciously transcribing recorded music from the 1920’s, through the 60’s. Before graduating from high school he was already playing clubs, dances and parties in and around Portland. He graduated from N.E.C. in 1979, with a Bachelor’s degree in Music. In 1980 he started his private teaching career, which he continues to this day.
Alan has performed and recorded with many of the Northwest’s most famous musicians, and has become a much in demand musician/guitarist. He started playing music with Curtis Salgado about 10 years ago, in their much loved duo format, giving concerts throughout the Northwest and various other areas of the U.S.. He has been a member of the Curtis Salgado band since the spring of 2015, and has now toured extensively with Curtis, in support of Salgado’s newest release, ‘The Beautiful Lowdown” (Alan is cowriter and featured guitar player on, ‘I Know a Good Thing’).
