Jimmy Mak's 20-year Anniversary Celebration

The Bobby Torres Ensemble

"Latin Jazz Review"

Saturday, July 9th

One show at 8pm

The Bobby Torres Ensemble’s driving Latin polyrhythms, tasty piano licks, fat Latin bass, and sizzling horns have set the tone for Latin Jazz in Portland, and beyond.

For this special occasion, the very powerful jazz vocalist Karla Harris - recently returned from tour in Europe -will join Julana Torres on stage, and Carmelo Torres - of Los Lobos, Los Lonely Boys and Jason Mraz - will join Bobby’s Ensemble on percussion.

This year, the Ensemble is celebrating their 22nd year performing in Portland and 16 years playing at Jimmy Mak’s. Bobby blends his influences from touring the globe with such greats as Tom Jones, Joe Cocker, and Etta James - with his Latin heritage to bring you Torres’ signature sound.

The Oregonian Arts & Entertainment reported that Bobby’s Ensemble has “Latin Jazz with enough flavor and spice to satisfy the soul's need for rhythmic harmony”. The sound is so compelling, even Bobby’s friend Tom Jones has come and sat in with the band.

Included with your cover, join Julana Torres at 7:00 PM for Latin Street-Style Dance Lessons. No partner and no experience necessary. Music begins at 8:00 pm.
