One show at 8pm

Award-winning vocalist Janis Mann returns to the Portland stage with the Janis Mann Group featuring Downbeat Poll winner George Colligan on piano, with Northwest favorites Dave Captein on bass and Ron Steen on drums. Described by critic Andrew Gilbert as "brilliant," Janis Mann most often figures as the fourth performer in a full-fledged quartet, her warm alto voice imbues each choice song with cool but concentrated emotion in a manner that meshes nicely with the simultaneous work of her backing trio (Cadence).

Janis is currently based in Los Angeles and performs often in New York, notably at the Blue Note and the Kitano.  Her recent touring includes New York, San Francisco, Seattle, and Portland. In addition to her own popular shows, Janis performs in duet with jazz legend Diane Schuur, including appearances at Yoshi's and Jazz Alley.  Schuur was also a guest on Janis' CD "A Perfect Time."  Legendary drummer Roy Haynes invited Janis to guest with his trio on several occasions, remarking "Great singer!  I haven't heard anyone like Janis Mann in years."

Janis Mann's latest CD "Celestial Anomaly" with pianist Kenny Werner was hailed by JazzTimes' Christopher Loudon as "a masterful fusion of musical minds. Mann is not only one of the most skilled vocalists around, but one of the most alluring as well." The new CD, her 7th, followed in the path of her previous 2 releases by charting high on the national JazzWeek radio charts.
