The Stevens Hess Band, Muddy Award winners of the Cascade Blues association "Best New Blues Act 2013", hits the stage at Jimmy Mak’s tonight with a couple of very special guests.

Let’s start with the leader of the band:
Sonny Hess, known for her sensual guitar riffs, was the first woman nominated in a male dominated field for "Best Lead Guitar" by the Cascade Blues Association, and also holds a nomination for "Lifetime Achievement Award".  Sonny is also widely known for her productions of the NW Women R&B Show, a specialty show that she created to introduce new performers to the Portland music scene, with two of those performers being Lisa Mann and Lady Kat.

Lisa Mann is currently nominated for a Blues Music Award for her mighty skills on the bass guitar. This nomination falls hot on the heels of her win for Blues Blast’s Sean Costello Rising Star Award, as well as three Muddy Awards from the Cascade Blues Association for "Contemporary Blues Act of the Year", "Bass Player of the Year", and "NW Recording of the Year" for her latest release, “Move On.”

Lady Kat delivers a low, rich, full bodied voice that carries the likes of Etta James, with a little of Wynonna’s twang, and the depth of Della Reese! Lady Kat was nicknamed by Sonny when she introduced her to the Portland music scene.

The dynamically talented Vicki Stevens holds a Rainy Day Blue Society award for "Best Female Vocalist". She is a show stopper, in your face, with her bluesy vocal style and her sassy harp playing.

Backing up all these women up are the tight rhythm section of Kelly (Sugar Beat) Pierce  on drums, and Jim Hively on bass, with a funky tone like no other.
