The evening starts off at 5pm with Main Street closed off for an ice-cream social hosted by Ice Cream Renaissance (who will be donating 30% of proceeds to the Foundation) and a performance by The Hough Youth Escola de Samba! At 6pmfolks will begin moving inside for more live entertainment including Project Bossa and Axe Dide-Donna Oefinger's Brazilian dance ensemble with more acts to follow! The evening will be introduced by Brian Davis of Pink Martini.

SWEET DREAMS is an acclaimed feature documentary about a remarkable group of Rwandan women who defy the devastation of the genocide to form the country's first all-female drumming troupe and open the country's first ice cream shop.

Proceeds go to the DRF to fund Free Beat Nation drum & dance camps taking place in June/July of this summer.

About Derek Rieth:
Derek was instrumental in building the Samba community in Portland, Oregon. He inspired and taught many students that have gone on to have successful careers. He was infectiously passionate about including anyone and everyone regardless of their ability to pay and found ways to get instruments into their hands often out of his own pocket.

He is mostly know to the world for his 18 years with Pink Martini but to Portland he was a local hero in the music community, giving endlessly and tirelessly to helping others with their dreams. Ethos and Portland public schools also benefited from Derek's generous nature. He will not be forgotten and the Foundation will carry on his legacy and his spirit.

The Derek Rieth Foundation is a 501(c)3
