Barry Harris is an internationally renowned jazz pianist grounded in the bebop tradition.  Harris was part of Detroit’s celebrated ‘50’s piano legacy including Hank Jones and Tommy Flanagan. An esteemed composer and educator, Dr. Harris received an Honorary Doctorate from Northwestern University, is an acclaimed NEA Jazz Master and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. He founded the Jazz Cultural Theatre in New York, a Chelsea storefront which served as performance space and education center from 1982-87.  For over 60 years professionally, the 83 year old Harris has been an exponent of the classic jazz style that was developed by Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell, and Thelonious Monk. Harris has performed with Coleman Hawkins, Max Roach Sonny Stitt, Dexter Gordon, Cannonball Adderley and Illnois Jacquet, among others. Harris will be joined by bassist Chuck Israels and drummer Mel Brown for this performance.
