PDX Jazz @ Jimmy Mak's presents:
The Clayton Brothers- "Brother to Brother"
Thursday, November 8th
Two shows: 7:00pm
The Clayton Brothers quintet centers around brothers John (bass) and Jeff (alto sax and alto flute) and also features John’s son, Gerald, on piano, as well as trumpeter Terrell Stafford, and drummer Obed Calvaire.
The quintet’s latest ArtistShare project, The Gathering, focuses on building a new sound from the ground up. Starting as an idea by Jeff, the new album brings together new musicians, as well as fans, into the creative fold. Trombonist Wycliffe Gordon and vibraphonist Stefon Harris are featured prominently as special guests.
While The Gathering marks a new chapter in their book, The Clayton Brothers quintet has been active since the late ‘70’s. Originally formed as a way for the siblings to come together in support of Jeff’s love of small-group playing (while the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra embraces John’s big band passion) and has continuously come together over the years to share a musical vision.
The quintet will make their Portland debut and perform in support of The Gathering.
